Story by Molly
The story that comes to mind is how I recently reconnected with my high school cross country coach and filled him in on being a part of the NYC running community. I told him all about moving to NYC, running my first marathon (NYC is one heck of a way to start my marathon career) and how running has allowed me to get to know my new home and make a whole network of friends.

I was so nervous because I’m nowhere near as fast as I used to be when I ran for him but at the end of telling him my journey, he smiled and told me how proud he was that I’d carried a love of the sport forward and connected with others over it.
He asked if he could tell his current high school runners about me and remind them that speed is far from everything in this sport.
It was such a good reminder to me that while this is a competitive sport, it’s also something that brings us together.
